Our Dorset Roadshow

Dorset Race Equality Council has started a ROADSHOW in the Dorset County area towns, with its first visit being in Dorchester on 4th October. The roadshow will over the next two months visit towns across the county, from Shaftesbury and Blandford to Lyme Regis and Christchurch promoting greater awareness of the organisation’s services to Dorset’s ethnic minority communities and the general population. The roadshow is intended to also promote greater awareness of the county’s ethnic diversity, and promote multicultural heritage and inclusive values.

Have Your Say - additional sites for Gypsies and Travellers in Dorset
Councils in Dorset are working together to identify sites to meet the current and future needs of Gypsies, Travellers and Traveller Showpeople in the County (click here to see the poster) .

Following consultation on potential Gypsy and Traveller and Travelling Showpeople sites in November 2011, a number of additional sites were suggested to the Councils for potential Gypsy, Traveller and Travelling Showpeople
uses.

Eight additional sites have now been shortlisted as sites with potential in East Dorset, North Dorset and West Dorset districts. There will be further public consultation on the additional potential sites between 15 September 2014 and 24 October 2014. Further information will be available from council offices and online at www.dorsetforyou.com/travellerpitches

All Different, All Dorset - The Movie!

2014 AllDifferentAllDorset MovieAll Different, All Dorset - The Movie!
Local writer Louisa Adjoa Parker is working in partnership with filmmaker Ebi Sosseh and Bournemouth University to create a film documenting African, Caribbean and Asian people’s experiences of living in Dorset. This project builds on an earlier project Louisa developed which produced an exhibition and book in 2011.

Filming will be carried out during September, and it is anticipated that sessions will take between 30 to 60 minutes.
The film will be launched in October during Black History Month at two venues in Bournemouth and Dorchester TBA.

Role description
With the support of the Project Coordinator, advocates will be required to identify ‘hidden’ ethnic minority carers living in the West Dorset and Weymouth and Portland area and offer weekly advocacy sessions to enable these carers to register and access the available support. Training will be provided.
